ABOUT THE WHS ACTIVISTS

We are a non-partisan student-run organization established in 2017. Our goal is to engage the Wootton student body in politics and current events by hosting meetings & discussions, events to connect students with their representatives, fundraisers for organizations such as Rock the Vote, panels with speakers from all parts of the political arena, forums to help students understand the platforms of candidates for Student Member of the Board, and voter registration drives. In the past, we have led groups to protests and walkouts and aspire to continue that in the 2024-2025 school year. We have a ton of exciting plans this year, including our annual SMOB forum and Activism Night. One of our flagship events, Activism Night, is a mixer-style event intended to bridge the gap and facilitate conversations between elected representatives and students. Community Figures such as the members of the Board of Education and County Executive Marc Elrich were present and participated in some incredibly productive conversations. In 2019, which was our first year hosting the event, we had the honor of being awarded the Montgomery County Regional Student Government Association's Event of the Year award.
